John Hamrick, Cotter's vice president of milling, told Colorado health officials of the plan in a letter Tuesday. Health officials were unavailable for comment Saturday.
The flooded Mount Taylor Mine would have to be rehabilitated before mining operations can resume, but Hamrick says Cotter could begin receiving ore at its mill in Canon City as early as August 2014, depending on market forces and regulatory approval.
Hamrick has said the mill could add 50 jobs when it reopens for operations.
The mill site was designated a Superfund cleanup site in 1984 because of radioactive contamination. Cleanup is ongoing.
