The body was found in the same neighborhood where a 16-year-old girl disappeared Friday night, according to Denver Police.

Officers arrested a 26-year-old man for investigation of first-degree murder. His name is Edward Timothy Romero. He's being held at the Denver County Jail.

Denver Police say they started investigating the disappearance of the girl on Sunday and that is when they identified Romero as a suspect.

"Mr. Romero was arrested without incident and as far as I know [he] is cooperating with the investigation," Det. John White with Denver Police said.

While searching the crime scene at 41st Avenue and Decatur Street, detectives found the body of a young woman. Police have not officially linked the body with the missing 16-year-old.

"At this point in time that's very difficult to say for sure," White said. "We don't know for certain until we get that autopsy report back."

The 16-year-old, Alicia Martinez, was last seen before she went to a party on Friday night.

9NEWS reached out to Martinez's family, but they said they are not ready to talk publicly.

Romero's picture is not being released pending further investigation.

"What is unfortunate about this entire situation is that we have a very young person that is now deceased under a cloud of suspicion," White said.
