Perlmutter is known for his twice-monthly "Government in the Grocery" meetings in his suburban Denver district. He says he had not made any decisions yet on how he will move forward with his regular meetings.
The Democrat is in talks with law enforcement, the grocery stores and his staff to make a decision on how to move forward with the meetings. Perlmutter says the safety of everyone participating is his top priority.
Perlmutter has held more than 70 of the grocery store meetings since first being elected to Congress in 2006.
Six people were killed in Saturday's shootings at a grocery-store meeting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords was shot in the head and is in intensive care.
