Before making the decision, the board heard a proposal that assumed there would be a .4 percent tax increase in 2012 to complete FasTracks by 2020.

The RTD board says it will look at possibly asking for a ballot initiative with a tax increase for 2012.

Without a tax increase, RTD says FasTracks will not be complete until 2042.

FasTracks was approved by voters in 2004. It is building 122 miles of commuter and light rail to go between Boulder, Denver, Lakewood and Denver International Airport. It will also redevelop Union Station in downtown Denver.
