Tim Ryan is the assistant news director at 9NEWS (KUSA & KTVD) in Denver. In this role, he's responsible for recruiting and managing the 9NEWS reporting staff and works with a team of news managers to coordinate and execute coverage on the station's newscasts and other distribution platforms including 9NEWS.COM.
Ryan has worked at 9News since 1991 in a variety of assignment desk and news management positions. He's participated in or managed coverage of stories ranging from the visit of Pope John Paul II to Colorado in 1993 to the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999 to the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in 2002 and the Denver Democratic National Convention in 2008. This and other coverage has earned the station repeated recognition for news excellence, including being named the Colorado Broadcasters Association Station of the Year for 12 consecutive years, as well as numerous national awards.
Ryan is a 1985 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and earned a master's degree in history from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1997. His master's thesis described the history of 9NEWS from its establishment in 1952. He and his wife Brenda live in Aurora, Colorado, with their three children.
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys a variety of pastimes including running, skiing, swimming, softball and basketball as well as reading history and has served in leadership positions with the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and the Boy Scouts of America.
