Child abuse cases up among military families

County Commissioner Sallie Clark says the Department of Human Services is working with military families to keep children from being hurt.

Cases involving military families are up 9 percent this year, almost double the rise from last year.

Advocate Sandra Hernandez says soldiers are going to Iraq and Afghanistan for the fourth or fifth time and she believes it's a contributing factor to the increase, according to KRDO-TV.

El Paso County has one of the highest number of child abuse case in the state of Colorado. Last year the number of cases was 12, 600, but this year the projected number is 13,000.
