The City Council will consider the measures Tuesday. The Daily Camera reported Monday that students in the Net Zero Club at Fairview High School and Summit Middle School have lobbied the council to consider a ban.

The proposed ban and an alternative fee of 10 to 20 cents per bag are included in an update to the city's Zero Waste Master Plan, which will be presented to the council.

Another option calls for banning plastic bans and requiring a fee for paper bags.

The council won't make a final decision at Tuesday's meeting.

San Jose, Calif., and Telluride have banned plastic and imposed a fee on paper.
