DENVER - David A. Keene, the president of the National Rifle Association, will travel to Colorado next week for a meeting with Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.
A spokesman with Hickenlooper's office confirmed the meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 7 and came at the request of Keene.
No further details of the meeting were offered, but it comes at a time when state Democrats - who now control the legislature - prepare to present legislation that aims to require background checks on the private sale of guns and a ban on ammunition magazines of more than 10-cartridges.
In his state of the state address earlier this month, Hickenloopervoiced support for universal background checkson firearms.
The NRA could not be immediately reached for comment about next week's meeting.
