GUNNISON COUNTY - Jurors could not reach a decision Saturday morning in the case against a Texas businessman accused of murdering his wife near their Gunnison County summer home in 2008.
Dateline NBC reports the jury has been at odds since Thursday before the mistrial. Jurors had to decide if Frederick Mueller was guilty of first-degree murder. Mueller's wife, Leslie, was found dead in a creek near Lake City in 2008.
Mueller claimed his wife was near the edge of a cliff when a bluebird startled their dog. Mueller told police the dog wrapped its leash around his wife's legs and pulled her off the ledge of the cliff.
"It sounds a little farfetched for starters," Sheriff Ron Bruce said in and interview in Feb. 2012. "She had no injuries that were consistent with falling head and shoulder first in to a field of boulders. She drowned."
