MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - A Montrose County sheriff's deputy has been shot while responding to a domestic violence call, and the suspect has been found dead.

The sheriff's office says the deputies who responded to the call met with a female victim, but when they knocked on the door of the home just before 2 a.m. Monday to talk to a male party, someone fired two shots at them.

One deputy was shot. Sheriff Rick Dunlap says the deputy was in stable condition following surgery.

When officers entered the home, they found a man dead inside. The county coroner didn't immediately release his name.
