Unloaded gun found at Cherry Creek middle school

KUSA - Parents in the Cherry Creek School District got an automated call Tuesday from a middle school about a gun found at school.

The principal of Campus Middle School explains on the school's website that an unloaded, small caliber handgun was found in a student's zipped notebook Tuesday afternoon.

This is Jane Miller, principal of Campus Middle School with an important message. At approximately 1:10 p.m. today, Tuesday April 23, 2013, during a student search, an unloaded, small caliber handgun was found in a student's zipped notebook. District security and the Greenwood Police were called. No bullets or ammunition were found at that time or during a subsequent search. Both the school district and law enforcement will follow state statutes and district policies regarding next steps. At no time were any students threatened or in danger. Please discuss this with your child and if you or your child has any additional information, please call Greenwood Police at 303-773-2525.

They say no ammunition was found with the gun.
Police were called and are investigating.
