GREELEY - A car has crashed into a University of Northern Colorado dormitory Wednesday morning.
According to Greeley Police, a silver pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the 1000 block of 20th Street. The driver seemed to have left the roadway, went into a grassy area, overcorrected, went back across the lanes of traffic and crashed into Wiebking Hall - a housing dorm on the UNC campus.
The two occupants in the truck were taken to the hospital - Luis Tellez and Zachary Wyatt. Tellez has minor facial injuries, but Wyatt was seriously injured. It is unknown at this time which man was driving.
"It could have been a tragedy, luckily no pedestrians were involved," Susan West, Spokesperson for the Greeley Police Department, said.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Many students recall hearing a big "boom" and a screeching noise. When they went outside to see what happened, they saw the truck flipped over on its side.
"When that truck hit the building, man, the whole building just shook. I opened the curtain and there was this truck coming toward the dorms. There was a guy in the bed of the truck saying, 'help me dude, help me!' So I helped him," UNC student Benjamin Morris said.
Several students said they went to the scene to help, others took pictures as police and first responders arrived on scene.
The crash damaged a bike rack and some bikes before hitting the building. No other people were injured.
