KUSA - At least three new wildfires flared up in Colorado Thursday as firefighters try to get a handle on the dozen wildfires already blazing across the state.

A large smoke column visible from Durango was identified as the Papoose Fire burning near the Rio Grande Reservoir above Creede. It's not clear how many acres the fires has burned.

Hundreds of miles north of the Papoose Fire, Garfield County firefighters are working to contain a fast moving fire near Rifle Gap. Very little information is known about this fire.

A fire in Rio Blanco County has grow to 50 acres. The Collins Fire was sparked by lightning and burning 17 miles northwest of Meeker.

Hot and windy conditions have hampered fire fighting across the state.
