GOLDEN - Jefferson County Public Health has received positive test results back from several mosquito pools in different areas of the County, including the City of Golden. There are no reports of any human cases at this time. But this is a good reminder to take precautions to keep yourself from getting bitten.
Mosquito season in Colorado starts in the spring and ends in mid-September and during mosquito season it's not uncommon for public health officials to find mosquitos testing positive for West Nile Virus.
"It has been present in the state of Colorado since 2002," Jefferson County Health spokesperson Nancy Braden said.
The City of Golden has a map of all standing water ponds within the city, and they are treated monthly with larvicide, including those around the intersection of South Golden and Johnson roads, near where the infected mosquito was found.
