DENVER - The University of Colorado at Boulder has released $120,000 to students affected by devastating floods that damaged about 80 buildings on campus.

About 170 students - most living off campus - have asked for help paying for hotel rooms, dealing with lost text books and other property, as well as getting meal cards because they can't get into their kitchens. The number of students seeking help is expected to rise.

CU president Bruce Benson's office launched the fundraiser Wednesday.

Hilliard says it could take months to determine how much it will cost to repair CU's buildings, most of which sustained water damage to carpeting and other flooring.

Most other universities in Colorado's flood zone weren't severely damaged.
