KUSA - 9NEWS has done plenty of stories involving scams and creeps on Craigslist. But thanks to an alert viewer who was looking for a place to live, 9NEWS found something else strange happening online.
Over the last several weeks, 9NEWS has been monitoring ads on Craigslist that offer "free rent" for females or postings that offer free rent for "live-in girlfriends."
Some of them seem like they're from lonely men looking for a girlfriend. Others are pretty explicit in their motive - free rent in exchange for sex.
With rent so high these days and vacancy levels so low, the promise of free rent could be attractive for someone who is desperate for housing.
9NEWS spoke to police and the men themselves as they went undercover to show what is happening and who wants you as a roommate.
This Tuesday night, 9NEWS Investigative Reporter Jeremy Jojola will explore this world of roommates with benefits and ask a simple question: Is this legal?
