KUSA - He got word from the NFL at the beginning of December and while the news was disheartening, he never stopped pulling for the Broncos for the remainder of the season. Now he's out of a gig, for this year anyway.

Alan Roach can be heard everywhere: at Pepsi Center for Avalanche games, on the DIA train, mornings on 850KOA and Sports Authority Field for home Broncos games. For the last eight years, Roach has been the voice of the Super Bowl, but not this time.

"I'm not allowed to announce the Super Bowl this year," says Alan Roach.

What? Why not?

"Because the NFL would consider it a competitive advantage for one of the two teams to have their home PA announcer to be the announcer of the Super Bowl," he explains.

The voice of Alan Roach has been a staple in the Denver market for over two decades in both radio and sporting venues. He is still a part of Super Bowl week with various duties and hasn't been completely shut out of the game.

"I still get to do my KOA job on the sideline and I still get to go in the locker room after the game to talk to the hopefully victorious Broncos, so to complain about what my role is on Super Bowl Sunday is ludicrous, but there's only one person in the world that gets to say 'I'm the Super Bowl announcer' and right now I don't get to say that."

All is not lost for Roach - the day after the Super Bowl, he will leave for Sochi where he will announce Olympic hockey games, something he has done for four straight Winter Games.
