Chris Vanderveen is proud to say he's a Colorado Native. He was born at Swedish Hospital, went to grade school at Bradley Elementary in Denver and Saint Louis Elementary in Englewood. He was a Spartan at Thomas Jefferson High School, and a Buff at the University of Colorado. So, of course, it's great to be back home.

Chris started his journalism career in Casper, Wyoming, working for KGWC-TV. There he learned to do just about every job imaginable. His job title should have read, "Photojournalist, reporter, producer, weekend weather anchor, weekend anchor, and guy who cleans snow off of the satellite dishes when Casper gets 2 feet of snow." Despite the Casper wind, he says it was the best start he could have ever gotten. After two and a half years there, he came back to Colorado, to work for KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs. There he was just a general assignment reporter, which was just fine with him. He worked under the shadow of Pikes Peak for another three and a half years before coming to 9News.

Chris is also a twin. He lived a good chunk of his life going by the name "Kevin." But the two are fraternal twins, so it goes to figure that one half is a journalist and the other a doctor. For his part, Chris says he can't even watch someone get a shot.

The best part about 9News for Chris, he says, is the fact that he's back in the town he loves. He says its no secret why so many people want to come here. Just look west, he says. And the part about being at 9News, he says, its just an incredible bonus. As a kid, he grew up watching 9. In college, he interned at 9. And it was 9News that showed him the secret to a good story. Unfortunately he can't tell you what that is because there's a satellite dish with his name on it as we speak.
