The dog, now known as Chico, was found on the side of the road in Redlands near Grand Junction.
When he was brought to an animal shelter, doctors worried they might not be able to save him and they knew surgery would be extremely expensive.
Then the All Breed Network and Colorado's Helping Hands Foundation stepped in and offered to pay for the surgery.
The owner of a private plane offered to fly Chico to Denver from Grand Junction.
He was expected to arrive Monday night at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital and the surgery should take place in the next couple days.
