Petitions from more than two dozen states, including Colorado, are asking to secede from the union.

Most of the petitions use the same language to peacefully "withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government."

The petitions are being posted to the We the People page of the official White House website.

Each petition needs 25,000 signatures in 30 days in order to garner attention and an official response from the Obama Administration.

As of Monday evening, the Texas petition was the only one to have enough signatures with support from nearly 40,000 people. The Colorado petition had received more than 9,000 signatures by Monday night.

Petitions are also circulating the White House site in support for Colorado's Amendment 64.

One petition asking the government to "remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substance Act and allow states to decide how they want to regulate it" has collected enough signatures to receive an official response.

The We the People site was started by the Obama Administration to give citizens an easier way to have their voice heard.

According to the site, "If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure its [sic] sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response."
