Douglas County Deputies are investigating if the crime is connected to other auto thefts in the metro area.

Deputies say this case is unusual because the entire crime was captured on video, which shows two men shining their flashlights on four cars, before running off with Jon Pfohl's 1994 Toyota Four Runner.

The entire crime took three minutes.

"I'm shocked actually. Disgusted that people could do that so close to Christmas," Pfohl said.

Pfohl's car was packed with stuff he took home from the University of Colorado on winter break, including ski gear, all his clothing and even his computer.

"It's about $9,000. That was my life. They took everything," Pfohl said.

There are ways to prevent auto theft, Deborah Sherman with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office says.

"We always encourage people to take things out of their cars or park it in a locked garage," Sherman said.

Sherman says on Sunday in a Walmart parking lot in Castle Rock, a driver noticed the thieves put Pfohl's stolen license plates on his car.

"We had a really observant driver. Those weren't his plates. Suspects will sometimes do that when they steal cars in order to sort of hide in plain sight if you will," Sherman said.

Deputies are investigating if this crime is connected to other auto thefts, which are actually down 40 percent in Douglas County over last year.

"They're just so blatant about it," Pfohl said.

Both suspects are white, with an average build and have dark hair. They're driving a dark full-size, four-door pickup.

"It could happen to anyone," Pfhol said.

Pfohl hopes the video will help deputies catch these guys before they take off with someone else's car.

It's just scary. You don't want it to happen to you so I'd love help finding these people," Pfhol said.

If you see that stolen Four Runner or have any information, you're asked to call the East Metro Auto Theft Task Force at 303-739-1699.
