According to Adams County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Terrance O'Neill, the man pointed a gun at the deputy as he approached the suspect.
It happened around 6 p.m. near East 142nd Avenue and Quebec Street when a witness called 911 to report a suspected DUI driver.
The witness continued to follow the suspect's car up until the rollover crash.
When deputies arrived, they found the suspect kneeling down next to the witness' car.
Upon contact, the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the deputy. O'Neill says the deputy fired twice, killing the suspect.
Deputies say a case of beer was found near the suspect's car.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
