EVERGREEN - Police are investigating a mysterious case in Evergreen where paint stripper was thrown on cars parked in a church parking lot.

On Jan. 29 between 4:30 and 6 p.m., rocks were thrown through the windows of the Mountain Light Unity Church at 27054 N. Turkey Creek Rd in Evergreen. The prayer group discovered the damage as they arrived around 6 p.m.

While the prayer group was meeting between 6 and 7 p.m., someone poured a gel-based paint stripper over 17 cars in the parking lot of the church. The stripper took the paint down to the bare metal of the cars, causing extensive damage.

There were also scratches on many of the cars. Victim estimates put a total value of the damage at over $43,000. That estimate is expected to climb after actual body shop estimates are completed.

Anyone who has knowledge of this crime is asked to call the Jeffco Sheriff's Office tip line at 303-271-5612. Crime Stoppers collects information on unsolved crimes or individuals wanted by the police. Callers can remain anonymous. The tipline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can call 720.913.STOP (7867) if you have a tip. A correct tip can result in a reward up to $2,000.
