DENVER - 9NEWS, in partnership with the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation, honors an emerging leader each year who has made a significant contribution to Colorado.
Christine Marquez-Hudson leads Mi Casa. It is an organization that has been around since 1976, working with the community to get people education they need to be successful in the future. Both for them and the community.
Marquez-Hudson started teaching life skills there.
"I walked through the halls and I thought, wouldn't it be neat to return some day as the executive director. I thought it would be 20 years from now, not 10 years later!"
Growing up as a kid, she says it was her family's dedication to helping others that inspired her personal mission to give back as an adult.
"Leadership is about doing the right thing every time you have the chance. Making really hard decisions some times. Operating with integrity and working really hard," she said.
Marquez-Hudson will be honored Thursday at the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation's Civic Leadership luncheon.
More than 700 people are expected to attend.
