Back in the 1950s the Gordon brothers started a company, in hopes of capitalizing on their brother George's chemistry background. While working in their dark Quonset hut, one of the brothers had an idea. He decided to fashion skylights out of some fiberglass mats they had laying around. A passerby saw the skylight panels and approached the brothers and a business opportunity was born.
After making panels for more than a decade the brothers expanded into everything from patio coverings to surf boards, eventually making archery bows. The work required the development of composites that bend under pressure.
Now the company creates strong, but lightweight materials used in everything from snowboards to sailboats and even reinforcements for bridges.
Gordon Composites was recently selected as one of the 50 Colorado Companies to Watch by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. Every Friday 9NEWS reports about another company, highlighting its success in this difficult economy.
