A year ago, RidgeviewTel stepped in to help the city save the service.

"When the city lost the backhaul to their Wi-Fi network last year, anybody else they called and asked how long it would take to fix it said it would take a month," Vince Jordan, the President of RidgeviewTel recalled. "We configured a fix and deployed it in 24 hours."

Working with the city, the company used its software to salvage the network. RidgeviewTel develops software platforms for telecommunications companies, which allows them to do everything including network planning, development, operations and even billing-all in one system.

Today, Longmont's mayor believes the system and the partnership is giving them a leg up in the competition to bring Google's ultra high-speed Internet project to Longmont.

"It is a solution oriented company. In other words, they're thinkers," explained Longmont Mayor Brian Baum. "They find ways to make things happen, rather than 'we can't make that happen.' You never here that from RidgeviewTel."

Because the company uses its own software to run Longmont's network and others around the country it has a first hand understanding of how changes will affect users.

"I can see every potential benefit that can happen from making an adjustment to the software because we're using it in real time all week long. That's a very unusual approach for a software company," Jordan said. "I think that's one of the biggest things that sets us apart. I know exactly what my customers are experiencing, because I'm one of them."

He says Longmont's network is also the perfect way to recruit new customers. When they visit the RidgeviewTel's headquarters he lets them try the Wi-Fi and then shows them how the software works in the company's control room.

RidgeviewTel was recently selected as one of the 50 Colorado Companies to Watch by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. Every Thursday 9NEWS reports about another company, highlighting its success in this difficult economy.
