ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Aspen Skiing Co. is ratcheting back the use of unpaid volunteers, a decision the company says is not related to labor complaints.

The Aspen Daily News reports there were about 140 ambassadors last year but that has been cut by a third.

Ambassadors work eight-hour days, once a week, for 20 weeks.

In exchange, they get a full-season pass. They are no longer doing the work of paid employees, such as setting up water, coffee, cider and cookie stations.

Ambassadors have also stopped conducting guest surveys.

Aspen SkiCo's vice president of human resources told the Daily News that ambassadors are spending more time meeting and greeting guests, the original goal of the program.
