DU improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the WCHA with its third straight win, while Minnesota State falls to 3-4, 1-4.
"Jesse Martin and his line mates had a big night. They scored three of our four goals and came up with two big goals in the third," head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Overall, I'm happy with our ability to execute and bring home a win."
After a scoreless first period, MSU and DU traded two goals each within the first four minutes of the second stanza. Martin scored his first of two tallies at the 1:30 mark and sophomore Joe Colborne (Calgary, Alberta) redirected a Patrick Wiercioch (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) wrist shot on the power play at 3:50. Martin's second goal came in the third, followed by senior Matt Glasser's (Calgary, Alberta) eventual game winner at 7:20.
Junior Marc Cheverie (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) broke the DU all-time shutout minutes streak in the first period, but left the game with a deep cut on his left calf at 2:31 of the third. Freshman Adam Murray (Anchorage, Alaska) earned his first collegiate victory in relief of Cheverie with seven saves. Cheverie could be out for a few weeks.
Luke Salazar (Thornton, Colo.) added two assists and Glasser added an assist for a two-point game. DU went 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
