LONDON (AP) - American businessman Stan Kroenke has increased his stake in Premier League club Arsenal to 29.6 percent, only .3 percent short of a mandatory takeover bid.

Kroenke, the London club's largest shareholder, bought another 427 shares at a cost of about $5.9 million. He previously held a 28.9 percent stake.

The Denver-based businessman also owns the Colorado Rapids, the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche.

The Premier League is considered to be the most popular and most lucrative national soccer league in the world.

Americans own three other Premier League clubs -- Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
