BOULDER - Some University of Colorado football fans frustrated with the team's 2-6 record this year plan on wearing powder blue at this weekend's game.

The move is aimed at the coaching staff, and is a reference to the early 1980s when the team wore powder blue and had a string of losing seasons.

The Buffaloes wore the jerseys from 1981 to 1984. In that time the team won 10 games out of 44.

CU senior Taylor Rhode wants to bring powder blue back.

"Wearing the blue is kind of a silent statement as to how the coaches are doing," Rhode said.

Rhode started the powder blue movement on Monday using Facebook.

He's encouraging students and alumni to wear powder blue for this Saturday's CU and Texas A&M game.

"It just kind of represents our discontent as fans. It has nothing to do with the players. We support them fully," Rhode said.

About 8,000 people have been invited to the Facebook page, according to Rhode. The title of the Facebook posting is "Wear POWDER BLUE to the CU game!!!"

Students have mixed feelings on the idea.

"It's just to show you're not really supporting what's going on, but you're still showing up to the game and showing support for the team," Junior Will Holberg said.

Joey Goode, a CU sophomore, said, "We need to support them. The season is already down the tubes, so might as well support them as best we can wearing our gold as we usually do."

CU Athletic Director Mike Bohn says the fans aren't the only ones frustrated with the Buffs' dismal record this year.

"We're all frustrated, and we all understand the importance of producing a program we're all proud of. We're doing a lot of the right things, but recognize we're falling short on the scoreboard," Bohn said.

Rhode admits his Facebook post has received mostly negative feedback, however, he says a lot of alumni support his powder blue idea.

Rhode tells us he'll also be wearing a black and gold shirt with his powder blue on Saturday.

Bohn says the coaching staff isn't worried about powder blue right now.

"Our coaches and playing staff are focused on getting ready for the Aggies. Obviously silver, gold and black is here to stay. We're proud of our school colors, and we're looking forward to the game Saturday," Bohn said.
