Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Chaz Williams led four Minutemen in double-
figures with a game-high 27 points as Massachusetts cruised by
the Rhode Island Rams, 81-53, in Atlantic 10 action at the Mullins Center.
Williams was two assists shy of a double-double in the Minutemen's (15-6, 5-3
A-10) victory. Terrell Vinson recorded 13 points and Cady Lalanne added 11
points off the bench. Maxie Esho contributed 10 points off the bench as well
for UMass which has won three of its last four games.
For the Rams (6-15, 1-7), Xavier Munford recorded a team-high 22 points but
also had a team-high five turnovers. Andre Malone contributed 10 points and
seven boards as Rhode Island lost a fifth game in a row.
UMass hit 50 percent from the floor including 5-of-10 beyond the arc in the
first half. The Minutemen dominated fast break points 12-0, and points in the
paint 16-6, en route to a 41-31 advantage at the break.
The Minutemen held Rhode Island to a mere 6-of-28 from the floor and 2-of-17
from long range, as coasted in the second half.
UMass dominated points in the paint 34-10, and controlled the boards, 38-27.
