Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - A men's basketball game between Arizona and Stanford scheduled for the McKale Center was postponed Saturday after a U.S. Congresswoman and others were shot.

Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat from Arizona, was shot in the head while she was hosting an event inside a northwest Tucson grocery store. An aide was killed in the attack, according to multiple reports.

"The university feels the game should be delayed with deep respect to the victims and families impacted by this tragedy," said Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne.

University security forces that would have worked the basketball game were heavily involved in the shooting incident, Byrne noted.

The contest was re-scheduled for 12:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET) on Sunday.
