Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Kevin Parks rushed for 115 yards and a
touchdown as the Virginia Cavaliers captured their first Atlantic Coast
Conference win of the season with a 33-6 rout of NC State at Carter-Finley
Both Phillip Sims and Michael Rocco were utilized at quarterback for
Virginia (2-6, 1-4 ACC). Sims got the start and completed 8-of-10 pass
attempts for 115 yards and a touchdown. Rocco had more pass attempts,
completing 12-of-23, but threw for only 83 yards and a touchdown. Darius
Jennings hauled in six passes for 57 yards and a score as the Cavaliers put
an end to a six-game losing streak.
Mike Glennon completed 23-of-46 pass attempts for 197 yards and a touchdown
but was intercepted three times for NC State (5-4, 2-3). Shadrach Thornton
rushed for a team-high 28 yards on a day when the Wolfpack only netted 19
rushing yards as a team.
Sims went a perfect 4-for-4 on the Cavaliers' opening drive and then punched
it in from a yard out for a touchdown.
Michael Rocco came in for Sims on the Cavalier's third possession of the game
and marched the team 68 yards on 10 plays ending in an 18-yard touchdown pass
The Cavalier defense put points on the board when Will Hill sacked Glennon in
the end zone for a safety late in the second quarter.
Sims threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tim Smith on the Cavaliers' first drive
of the second half as Virginia expanded its least to 23-0.
Drew Jarrett connected on a 33-yard field goal at the beginning of the fourth
quarter for the Cavaliers.
NC State finally got on the board with just over six minutes left in
regulation when Glennon connected with Mario Carter for a two-yard touchdown
pass. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed.
Parks scored on a 31-yard rushing touchdown a little more than two minutes
later as the Cavaliers coasted to the win.
Virginia more than doubled NC State's total offensive production (446-216) and
forced five Wolfpack turnovers.
The Sports Network
