Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Tulsa rushed for 350 yards as a team and the
Golden Hurricane routed the Houston Cougars 41-7 in a Conference USA bout at
Four different rushers had at least 10 carries for Tulsa (8-2, 6-0 C-USA) led
by Alex Singleton who had 79 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Ja'Terian
Douglas had a team-high 87 yards on 12 carries. Trey Watts had 11 carries for
57 yards while Cody Green had 10 attempts and scored a pair of touchdowns.
David Piland completed only 15-of-32 pass attempts for 144 yards and was
intercepted twice times for Houston (4-6, 3-3). Piland was pulled in the
fourth quarter for Crawford Jones who completed 3-of-7 passes for 36 yards and
the team's lone touchdown pass.
A quiet first quarter ended with Tulsa leading 3-0 after Daniel Schwarz
connected on a 29-yard field goal attempt just six seconds before the end of
The Golden Hurricanes stretched that lead yo 17-0 with a pair of one-yard
rushing touchdowns from Singleton before the intermission. The second
touchdown run from Singleton finished off a 17-play, 90-yard drive that lasted
nearly six minutes.
Green scored on a three yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and
added a one-yard rushing score at the beginning of the fourth.
Schwarz kick a 24-yard field goal in the final period.
Tulsa continued to pull away when Cory Dorris returned a Piland interception
22 yards for a touchdown on Houston's next possession.
Piland was pulled after that interception. Taking over was Crawford Jones who
finally got the Cougars on the scoreboard with a 16-yard touchdown pass to
Tulsa held a massive 505-262 edge in total yards and controlled the ball for
the majority of the game with a nearly 16-minute edge in time of possession.
