Fargo, ND (Sports Network) - North Dakota State has rewarded head football coach Craig Bohl with an eight-year contract extension.

The new deal will take the 2012 Eddie Robinson winner as the top coach in FCS through the 2021 season.

Bohl guided the Bison to the FCS national championship last year and this year's squad has a chance to repeat Saturday with a matchup against Sam Houston State in the title game.

"I am very pleased we have signed Coach Bohl to continue being the head coach of the Bison the next several years," said North Dakota State athletic director Gene Taylor in a statement. "His record of success speaks for itself and how he operates the program overall is exceptional."

The Bison will enter Saturday's contest with a record of 13-1, giving Bohl a mark of 88-32 during his 10-year tenure. He is the second-winningest coach in school history, behind only Rocky Hager's 91 wins.

"I want to thank Gene Taylor for his leadership and believing in the direction that we have established for the North Dakota State football program," said Bohl. "I sincerely appreciate the university's long-term commitment to me and to the future of Bison football. The success that we've accomplished has been possible because of the collective efforts of the football coaches and staff, players, our administration and the entire NDSU family."

Bohl's contract includes a base salary of $206,503 and will increase by a minimum of five percent per year, contingent on performance evaluations. The deal includes Missouri Valley Conference championship and FCS playoff incentives.
