That's right I said it. I need to get a life.
Ordinarily, preseason football doesn’t do it for me. Every August I get fired up that football games are back on TV only to remember what I’ve always known – preseason football is boring.
But this year is different. I don’t know about you, but I’m finding more reasons not to turn the channel after the starters have left the game in the first quarter.
Maybe it’s this year’s high profile draft class. New Orleans at Tennessee doesn’t get me excited in the regular season so why was I so excited Saturday night for their preseason opener? Well, it was the first NFL action for super rookies Vince Young and Reggie Bush.
Maybe my interest is just a sign that my life is getting more pathetic (definite possibility).
Regardless, I’m more interested than ever in preseason football.
Take the Broncos game against the Lions. Was it just me, or was any one else interested in checking out Jay Cutler? After hearing so much about the rookie since draft day, I couldn’t wait to get a look at the guy in a game situation. Needless to say, Cutler didn’t disappoint.
How about Mike Bell? Was anyone else curious about what this guy could do?
I mean he’s competing for the holy grail of running back jobs, and no one in the league thought he was worth a 7th round draft pick.
At the very least, I know fantasy football owners around the country were anxiously awaiting Bell’s debut.
It just seems like every team around the league has sexy storylines that make their preseason games interesting this year.
T.O. and Bill Parcells trying to get along in Dallas.
The Edge moving on to Arizona.
Randy Moss already melting down in Oakland.
Football is clearly king in the American sports landscape.
Over the next six months we’ll live and breathe the true American pastime.
But does that really mean I have care about it in August? I guess so.
