Some of our viewers took exception to Drew Soicher's commentary on whether Carmelo is worth $80 million, and decided to e-mail him Monday morning
.I think it is ridiculous and completely unproductive and downright MEAN of you to say that Carmelo Anthony will never be as good as LeBron James. WHY would you say that? What is your point, how do YOU know, and how is it relevant IN THE LEAST to whether Carmelo is ready to be captain? And YES I AM YELLING! It was a stupid, arrogant, smarmy comment. It just proves my husband's point (who worked in the television media for 15 years) that you all don't care about your subject. You're just trying to look smarter than anyone else.AND, give him a flippin' break. He's 20 (maybe 21) years old for crying out loud. All those stupid things he did were 2 years ago - a millennium in a 21 year-old's life and do you have to keep bringing them up? You're not trying to do anything for Carmelo or the sports public in general. This is all about Drew. Shame on you and what a worthless piece. I don't know if he's ready to be captain, but your piece did nothing to answer the question.MarieAn anonymous viewer writes -
You sound like a player hater, Drew. Most of what you said about Carmello (sic) tonight was old news. You should be ashamed for spewing out all that jealousy. Carmello is young and he's doing good things as a ball player, a young man and a citizen. Everyone has made some mistakes just like Carmello while growing up. It's not right for you to use your television show as a platform to tear him down as a person!! You need to concentrate on your job as a sports news reporter and stop trying to be Carmello's judge, overseer (that's what you sounded like) and guardian or whatever you call yourself doing by putting him down like you did tonight. I see why you were fired from your old job. You're cynical and mean spirited.
