AKRON - The Akron football team had its 46-game win streak snapped Friday night as Yuma beat the Rams 17-14.
Mitch Wills' 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter provided the Indians the winning margin. Willis also threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Joel Rhodes in the first quarter. The score which eventually proved to be the difference - a 27-yard field goal by Adrian Vega in the third quarter.
Jourdan Hottinger scored both of the Rams touchdowns in the loss.
With the win, Yuma improved to 8-0 for the season while Akron dropped to 7-1 overall.
It is the first loss for the Rams since the 2005 state championship game. Akron's 46-game win streak started the following season - against Yuma. Since then, the Rams have also won the last three CHSAA Class 1A state titles.
