DENVER - The Colorado Rockies will have a chilly reception for the Philadelphia Phillies during game 3 of the National League Division Series on Saturday night. The main reason is that temperatures are expected to be below freezing by the time the game starts.

The Rockies tied up the series by winning game 2 on Thursday. Temperatures all last week in Philadelphia were in the 70s, but an arctic chill will mean quite different weather for the game set for Saturday.

"We think of the worst that Mother Nature will throw at us and then kind of go from there," Mark Razum with the Coors Field ground crew said.

The Rockies ground crew has seen it all, and the team of 10 was working hard Friday afternoon to put the final touches on the field before the cooler weather rolls in.

"The weather are things we've dealt with in the past, so we'll deal with it as it comes along," Razum said.

While the crews monitor the field, fans and players will have to deal with the cold. Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s during the game.

"I don't think there's a certain number it's going to be too cold to play," Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said.

Major League Baseball makes that call and right now, the game is on. But things could change, especially if it's snowing.

"That's when baseball begins to say, 'Wait a minute,' because that's when players get hurt on the field," Alves said.

Ground crews plan to cover the field on Friday night and wait to see what happens. They also have drying agents they can put down on the dirt to dry it out.

The Rockies have a heated dugout, but fans should be sure to dress warm.

"The fans, layer up, man. Get as warm as you can. Bring your blanket and stay warm and stay rowdy," Alves said.

To help fans keep warm, Coors Field is ordering extra goodies: 2,000 gallons of coffee and hot chocolate, 10,000 hot dogs, 3,500 brats and 3,000 bags of peanuts.
