LODO HOTSPOTSDENVER - Zach Bierman thought Saturday night would be huge at Lodo's Bar and Grill where he tends the bar. The Colorado Rockies were supposed to host the Philadelphia Phillies one block away. But, plans for an extra-busy Saturday night were put on hold.
"We were hoping that it would be a pretty big play," said Bierman, bar manager at Lodo's.
Instead of playing Game 3 of the National League Divisional Series, snowfall and cold temperatures prompted officials with Major League Baseball to postpone the game till Sunday pushing the Games 3 and 4 back one day.
David Shaughnessy is the general manager of Lodo's. He has to make special preparations for big playoff game nights.
"We order three times the amount of food that we normally order," said Shaughnessy. "The Rockies making the playoffs for us, makes our October."
Shaughnessy says the change in the game schedule is actually good for business because he can fall back on the normal crowds which come out on Saturday. Now, he expects a manic Monday instead of a mundane one.
"I would say over the three day period with the Rockies playing now on Sunday and Monday instead of playing on Saturday, our sales will be better over the three day period because of that," said Shaughnessy.
Still, fans are disappointed the game didn't go on despite the snow and cold.
Dele and Brian Finnegan flew in from Philadelphia to cheer on their team over the next two games. But, because of the postponement, they can only attend one game on Sunday. They both have to go back to work.
"Yes and we're angry," said Dele Finnegan.
Brian Finnegan says a frigid game three could've been a great story.
"It would've been like the coldest playoff game ever. It would've been awesome, I mean for the Rockies and the Phillies," said Brian Finnegan. "It would've been like legendary and now it sucks."
Mookie Metz is a Rockies fan. He says the game would've been all Colorado.
"That's our home-field advantage is the snow. We're like bring it on, you know," said Metz.
Bierman now has to spend Saturday night consoling these
people upset over the delayed game. But, he says as far as business goes, he'll take it.
"(Saturday night) might not be as big as it could've been, but we'll still have a good night tonight and just look forward to Monday," said Bierman. "When they do well, we do even better."
