Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA announced Wednesday that it has
acquired Mexican striker Cesar Romero. Per league and club policy, terms of
the deal were not released.
Romero, 22, most recently played for Murcielagos FC de Guamuchil in Mexico's
second division. He was on trial with the Goats during preseason, but
impressed the coaching staff enough to garner a full-time contract.
"We are very pleased to sign Cesar," said Chivas USA head coach Robin Fraser.
"He is a young player who has come in and done quite well in preseason.
"He's got good pace, he's got a good nose for the goal, he has proven to make
himself difficult to be marked by opposing defenses and we think that he has a
Chivas USA also revealed that Peter Vagenas and Rauwshan McKenzie have signed
with the club.
Vagenas, an MLS veteran at age 33, joins the Goats after spending the 2011
season with Vancouver Whitecaps FC where he made 16 league appearances.
McKenzie, 25, spent his last two seasons with Real Salt Lake but began his MLS
career with the Kansas City Wizards.
