Betancourt's salary for the 2010 season is still undetermined, however the Rockies will now have exclusive rights to negotiate a new contract with him. If the two sides can't agree on a figure, an arbitration panel will determine Betancourt's salary.
The 34-year-old right-handed reliever went 4-3 with a 2.73 ERA in 61 games with Colorado and Cleveland last season. He struck out 61 in 56 innings and walked 20. Betancourt was sparkling in a Rockies uniform, as he went 3-1 with a 1.78 in purple pinstripes.
Also on Monday, All-Star starting pitcher Jason Marquis rejected the Rockies offer of salary arbitration, instead opting to test the free agency market. He's now free to sign with any team, including the Rockies. However, it's been widely reported Marquis had a falling out with the Rockies after he was not included in the team's playoff rotation.
The 31-year-old right-hander matched a career high in wins with 15 in 2009, and set a career best in innings pitched in a season with 216.
