LUNAFEST, the traveling fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by Clif Bar & Company at the Boulder Theater in Boulder on Oct. 11, 2012.
"Film is such a great way to bring women together in the community, so it made sense for LUNA to create this opportunity to connect women filmmakers and their audiences with causes they care about," Kit Crawford, owner and co-CEO of Clif Bar & Company, maker of LUNA bars, said.
This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women's health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
"LUNAFEST is special event for us to bring to the community because there is nothing like this in Boulder that truly celebrates women and film," says Colleen Cooke, Boulder LUNAFEST host. "It allows women-and men!-to be a part of something special, and when you get up from your seat, you'll walk away and hopefully be changed for the better."
All proceeds from LUNAFEST will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund, which focuses on cancer prevention, and Greenhouse Scholars, a Boulder-based non-profit that provides personal and financial support to under-resourced, high-performing college students. Last year, LUNAFEST raised over $1.5 million for women's nonprofit organizations, traveled to over 150 cities and had over 20,000 viewers.
