KUSA - Big, tall, and plus size. They exist because one size doesn't fit all. Which is why a former nurse and house cleaner, who have both struggled with weight loss, decided to open a fitness studio for plus size individuals.
Beth Ridgeway and Monica Howell will celebrate the grand opening of Thick N Thin on July 13 in Broomfield at 1004 Depot Hill Road Unit 1A.
Both ladies say they understand what it's like to be plus size and not feel comfortable at typical gyms, fitness centers, or studios. They wanted to create a studio specifically for people who need to lose 30 or more pounds.
"I feel if we provide a safe, comfortable atmosphere for men and women who are overweight they'll want to come and workout and they'll be able to see the results of their workouts and being active" said Howell.
Adds Ridgeway, "Being overweight is not easy. You often feel very self-conscious, like eyes are following you, no matter where you go. The last thing you want to do is walk into a gym full of already "fit" people, or a yoga class full of super flexible people who can ace every yoga pose there is. The thought alone is very intimidating and scary. These feelings were the fuel behind the idea of Thick N Thin Studio"
Ridgeway and Howell have compiled an outstanding team of instructors and will also offer fitness for children; Stretch-N-Grow is an early childhood physical education, nutrition and wellness program.
The Grand Opening takes place July 13th from 10-5pm and will feature 20 minute demo classes throughout the day (see website for complete list), a drawing for 2 winners to join Beth and Monica on a weight loss journey and 10 minute chair massages.
