KUSA - The question came from the Twitterverse "Hey Susie, I can't believe you're not on Strava."
Strava? I had heard about it, but wasn't sure exactly what it entailed. I knew it kept track of workouts, but figured I didn't need to sign up because I have a Garmin. Wrong.
Strava does much more than just keep track of workouts: it shows how you fare against others who are also doing similar workouts (running, biking, etc). You can still use your Garmin (yeah!) and upload after a workout, or just start and stop in real time with the mobile app.
I have quickly realized there are some VERY fast female cyclists in the Highlands Ranch/Lone Tree area and I've had fun trying to keep up with some of their current records.
I also enjoy keeping up with myself - not only does Strava compare your times with others, it also compares you to YOU, so you can see how you fare from workout to workout on the same segment.
The social component is fun too - you can follow others, they can follow you and simply observe, give Kudos or comment. I like to give my rides funny names to add a little character so friends know what happened during the ride.
Check out a route I did recently, poke around and start a profile yourself if you don't have one. It's a great little motivator!
